Crash after the new update

I’ve been a long-time player of The Sims 4, but after the latest update, the game has become completely unplayable. It crashes within minutes of launching, and I can’t even start a new save without it crashing again.

Before this update, everything was working just fine. Now, it’s impossible to enjoy the game in any capacity. I’ve tried all the usual troubleshooting steps, but nothing works. It's extremely frustrating to deal with this, especially for a game I’ve invested so much time (and money) into.

  • hq4whwhl1flg  Not knowing what you've done already, I have a couple suggestions you might have tried.  If you thought of them and they didn't help, just let me know.

First, if you have any files in ConfigOverride, please delete them.

Otherwise, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If you get another crash, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the camera (Insert Media) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
