Deleted the documents folder and now the game won't open

I had a problem with my saves and tray files that was unfixable, so I decided to just reinstall the game and start fresh, but the Eletronic Arts folder ended up going to C:\Users\Public\Documentos Públicos instead of C:\Users\User\Documentos and I think it's because the Documents folder was in OneDrive and I just dragged it to my local drive. The game being in the public documents instead of my local documents bothered me so I just deleted the public documents folder and reinstalled it again, hoping it would go tho the right documents folder, but it didn't, and now my game won't open and gives me this error: 135dec40:29f00e76:00000083:b032c32e

What can I do to fix this whole mess?

  • @miminsou  Please list the location of your computer's Documents directory, as Windows sees it.  Here's how to find it:

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "Personal"

And let me know whether you want OneDrive in the picture at all.

@puzzlezaddict Here's the location (I put it back in OneDrive the see if the game would recognize it, but it didn't): C:\Users\User\OneDrive\Documentos

I don't want OneDrive anymore, I deactivated it a while ago because it was deleting stuff, so idk why the documents were still there.

For now I managed to get the game to work in the public documents folders again, but if it's possible, I'd like to move the game to my local documents.

@miminsou  Here's how to get rid of OneDrive and also move Documents to the proper location in one go:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/PC/CURRENT-ISSUE-Sims-4-saves-user-content-disappearing-PC/m-p/12475370#Remove

You can double-check the result with the same command—the location of Documents should now be C > Users > your username > Documents, with no OneDrive involved.  If ending OneDrive backup alone doesn't move Documents to the correct location, you can force the change.  Use the registry edit described in the Microsoft article I linked at the end of that section of the guide.

@puzzlezaddict I desvinculated OneDrive from my pc but the documents are still there, so I'm changing it manually, but I want to confirm I'm doing it right.
    It's like this now: %USERPROFILE%\OneDrive\Documentos
    I'll change it to: %USERPROFILE%\MyUser\Documentos
    Is that right?

@miminsou  No, you want the location to be this:

    %USERPROFILE%/Documentos

The %USERPROFILE% is short for C:\Users\your username.

And to be clear, you will still see the other Documents folders, at least the ones you haven't deleted, and that's fine.  The idea is not to have a single Documents folder but to designate one of the folders as the proper directory that Windows uses.  Sims 4 will use this location as well.

I did that and it looks like it's in the right location in the registry edit, I also changed the location of the folder in properties. But it still says it's in OneDrive.

Yes, the game ended up moving to the right folder by itself after I changed the location and is working perfectly. Thank you so much for your time and patience 😊
