First of all, thank you for the improvements that came with the latest patch (Jan 14). That was very helpful. Minimizing the game from fullscreen mode using alt-tab works now flawless for me.
But there is still a big difference between tabbing down the game in DX9 or DX11 mode in fullscreen mode.
In DX9 mode the performance of my graphics card goes down from about 70% to 0% and the power consumption of my system goes down from about 270W to about 140W. This is also the state I expected. In minimized mode, the game shouldn't consume any compute resources.
Here is a screenshot from my task manager while the game is tabbed down in DX9 mode:
As you can see: GPU performance is 0.
An alternative view, where the red arrow marks the point in time where the game was minimized:
In DX11 mode, however, the full GPU performance is still in use after minimizing the fullscreen mode game (also CPU performance is unusually high) and the power consumption remains constantly at the maximum 270W - 300W.
Because of this I'm staying in DX9 mode despite the way better performance of the DX11 mode. I pretty often minimize the game (sometimes for hours) to do other things. I don't want my electricity bill to explode.
By the way: that is also reason why I never used windowed and windowed fullscreen mode. No matter whether you're using DX11 or DX9, the GPU performance is always constantly high also when the game is minimized to the taskbar. In fullscreen mode it's different, at least with DX9: no resource consumption as you would expect.
Maybe you can have a look into that issue.
