Download fails after finalizing - The Sims 4

Hi, guys!

A bit of history- I own the Sims 4, I have successfully downloaded Origin and installed the Sims 4 onto my PC in the past, played it for several months with no problem.

Though recently, I deleted the Sims 4 and Origin since my computer was having issues and had to wipe it to get it repaired. This week, I tried to install the Sims 4 again onto my computer. The installation is fine until it gets to the finalizing stage. Then a pop-up appears saying the download failed. I've restarted my computer, I've run Origin as administrator, and I've tried to clear the cache (not sure I did it right though). Please tell me there's a solution! I would really love the help.

  • @sarahkate513  This is how to clear Origin's cache, in case you want to check your work:

Restart your computer after you've done it.  If the download still fails, clear Origin's cache and restart your computer again, and then try repairing the game instead: right-click on the Sims 4 icon in your Origin library and select Repair.

If this doesn't help either, try setting an exception for Origin.exe in your antivirus/firewall.  You might need to set one for TS4_x64.exe too, although that wouldn't seem necessary just for the update process.

@puzzlezaddict I followed all the steps to clear the cache. When I open up Origin, it automatically begins to 'repair' the game, saying 'verifying game files.' The game hasn't even installed, it doesn't say there are any updates. But the download still failed.

I'll try and restart my PC again, and if that doesn't work, I'll try the firewall thing you said and let you know how that goes.

@sarahkate513  If changing the firewall settings didn't help, please disable auto updates in Origin.  Hover over your username, select Application Settings, and under Application (the first header), scroll down to Client update and disable auto game updates.  Then clear Origin's cache again, restart your computer, and see whether you can download the game rather than Origin trying to repair.

If not, you can use a tool like Revo Uninstaller or Piriform's CCleaner to find and remove all Sims 4-related content from your computer.  If you have any content that you'd like to save, please rename the Sims 4 user data folder in Documents\Electronic Arts, so it doesn't get flagged.

  • Was your issue resolved? I've been experiencing the same exact issue. Thus far I've configured my firewall and antivirus to allow both Origin and Sims 4 folders and then:

Uninstalled Origin and Sims 4 installs via Control Panel and manually (e.g., Program Data)

    Rebooted

    Reinstalled Origin as admin

    Rebooted

Started Origin as admin, download Sims 4...Finalizing...Download Failed

@anghang21  Try installing Sims 4 into a different, newly created folder.  You can install it almost anywhere; just avoid Documents and Program Files.  It's also a good idea to install only the base game, and then move onto the packs once the base game installation completes.
