EA App - Blank Screen

I have tried everything

  • Removed cache (In 2 different ways)
  • Checked for updates
  • refreshed ea app
  • reinstalled
  • Open as administrator
  • Restarted my computer MANY times
  • And probably more

When I try to open the app I am met with a blank screen. Nothing else just that. I can touch the things on the sides but nothing will pop up. I first noticed when I tried to play the Sims. It would try to open the app but when it does it responds with a "preparing game" window that loads for a minute or so and then stops with nothing happening. So, I did everything listed above I watched countless YouTube videos while staying patient, looking at other people with the same problem. But I've grown extremely impatient with the same results for two days. I just want a fix so I can play Sims 4.

  1. I downloaded the Sims on Steam so it has to go to the EA window for it to load
  2. I also got a free pack on the Epic Games launcher
  3. I use cc (Not that I think that has to do with the EA app)
  4. I first noticed this happened when I moved the EA app and the Sims 4 into folders trying to revamp my background I've since moved them out but nothing has changed

Thank you!

  • @lore_bubbles  Try clearing the EA App's cache, which has nothing to do with your game data:

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/

And no, clearing the game's cache wouldn't erase your data either, but it also wouldn't help with an EA App issue.

If clearing the App's cache doesn't help, download a fresh copy of the App's installer and run it.  You should see the option to repair the App rather than install, so choose that.

If the App still doesn't work, you should then be able to remove it with Revo.  If not, restart your computer, go into Program Files > Electronic Arts, and delete the EA Desktop folder; if you get an error, kill anything that starts with EA in the Task Manager, including in the background processes list.  Then use Piriform's CCleaner (again, the free version is fine) to remove anything EA App-related.  Make sure you do NOT delete the Electronic Arts folder in Documents, as this is where your saves and other Sims 4 user data are located.

@missaonetwo  I can see why the EA App might not get along with this computer.  Its graphics driver is a decade old and cannot be updated further.  I also see that you said it helped to disable the driver entirely, which is what you did when you disabled the "chipset" described earlier in that thread, but that's not a long-term fix because any game you then tried to play would run very poorly.

What you might be able to do is open the App with the driver disabled, click "Keep me signed in," reenable the driver, restart your computer, and launch Sims 4 from its desktop shortcut.  The App would try to open and look weird (or be blank), but all it would need to do is silently verify that you're signed in and own Sims 4, so it wouldn't actually need to be usable itself.

I would also suggest increasing the size of your computer's page file, which will help with overall performance if not necessarily with the EA App or Sims 4.  Here's how (option one):

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/77692-manage-virtual-memory-pagefile-windows-10-a.html#option1

Set the minimum to 12000 and the maximum to 16384, and restart.

I doubt EA is going to fix an issue that only exists on 15-year-old hardware.  It's possible, of course, but not many games can even run on this hardware anymore, and the App has other issues that affect more users and are therefore more urgent.  I'm not saying it's right to leave this unfixed, only that it's likely.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have been able to use this work around to play my game and it runs very well, hopefully they'll fix the app issue, because,  even if it's an old driver or system,  there was nothing ever said by EA that it wasn't compatible or wouldn't work, and my game had been running just fine on this hardware prior to EA updating their app so IDK, we'll see.

This has just started happening to me too.

Ive tried force quitting the app via the task manager. Clearing the cache. And nothing works.

The app itsself wont even close properly. Its as if when i open it and it has a blank screen its always running in the background whatever i do.

The only fix i can find right now is to restart my whole PC.

Really hope this gets fixed soon.

@SakuraLeon  So you're saying the App works immediately after you restart your computer?  In that. case, try disabling its background service, under Settings > Application.  You can also manually kill the EABackgroundService in the Task Manager; it's under background processes.

@puzzlezaddict Just wanted to say thanks that worked for me. I posted the below on reddit as well, in hopes that it will save other hours of googling and troubleshooting.

I know this post is months old but for anyone who's fighting the EA blank screen issue in general I hope this helps. I'm running Windows 11 and the solution below has worked every time. I've tried all the other fixes like the Registry location fix, uninstalls and reinstalls, compatibility etc. None permanently resolved the issue, and the problem keeps coming back. It appears that after launching an EA game through Steam or the EA app it always leaves EA background services open which will eventually hang, causing the issue. Simply close the app and kill the process in task manager then reopen the EA or game you're trying to play.

For those who don't know how to do that as easy, here a quick guide.

First hit CTRL+Shft+ESC to open Task Manager

    Select Details on the left

Now look for EABackgroundService.exe in the list or just type it in the search window at the top.

Once you find it, right click on EABackgroundService.exe and select End Task.

Note: I also tried disabling background services in the EA itself but that does nothing apparently...Hope they get rid of this broken launcher soon. It sucks to have a game working completely fine for weeks then you can no longer launch anything for no apparent reason...

I tried this (I have the same problem as the person you initially replied to) and I can't find the ea app in this uninstaller. Do you have any advice on what to do please? It's really weird. What's even weirder is that sometimes my game still starts (sims 4). About once every two days I'm able to play and than the app and my game look completely fine. After that, same problem again: black screen, game keeps loading forever but doenst open, ... I also haven't been able to contact EA. Should I try to clear my cache? If so, wouldn't that delete my whole in game progress? (I have no knowledge about these kinds of things, sorry if I sound a bit stupid.)

  • This worked perfectly, thanks!

What a shame, that EA app is so bad just as the Origin App before.
