EA app stuck on updating

Hi,

Got asked to update TS4, but it's always the same : searches for updates, updates it, tells me it's finalising in a few instant, then goes back to the first steps until I get an error message.

Before commenting, just so you know that I ;

- Turned my computer off, then back on

- Cleared the cache (burger menu > app recovery > clear cache)

- Updated EA app by going to Start > EA > app recovery

- Tried to go offline/online

- Uninstalled EA app, reinstalled it

- Tried with/without VPN

- Repaired the game, but it gave me an error message

- Remembered the time where Origin was still available for PC users

Any advice ... ?

@paracetamowl  I think the only thing left for you to try is uninstalling and reinstalling Sims 4.  Given the issue you're seeing, I'd suggest installing it into a new folder you create for this purpose.  The folder should be on the root level of the drive of your choice, e.g. C:\Games, not C:\Program Files\Games.

If your internet is slow, you could copy the game's program files to the new location you're going to use before uninstalling.  When you go to reinstall, the App may simply verify the presence of the files rather than redownloading everything, although that's been hit or miss for me.  However, the App would still need to update, so this would only help if moving the install location was the key to fixing the problem.  On the other hand, it's a relatively quick test compared to downloading everything fresh.

  • @paracetamowl  What error message did you see when trying to repair.  If you use a third-party antivirus, have you set exceptions for TS4_x64.exe and EADesktop.exe?

Hi @puzzlezaddict ! Thank you for your answer.

I don't use any third-party antivirus, so no exceptions set for those programs...

The error message I had when updating the game was something among the lines of "Your game failed to launch. An error on our end caused your launch to fail. Try again a little later."

When I tried to repair the game, it was also something like "A problem occured, restart the app and try again or contact us for any assistance" (sorry, can't recall the exact phrasing).

Just saw it now but yeah, I kind of did that and it worked !

So, if anyone has the same issue :

I copied my TS4-related files out on my desktop (EA games folder + Electronic Arts folder which is usually in the documents).

Reinstalled the game from EA app entirely, with the update

Replaced the most important files by the old ones, one folder at a time (mostly the saves, the mods, the data/delta folders, etc)

Started the game, and now it's all good (?)

    Thanks 🙂
