EA DLC no longer works with steam game
So my partner recently bought some DLC off the EA app for the Sims 4, they have the Steam version of the game and have only bought DLC off of Steam before and that's worked fine for them. This time they bought the DLC off of the EA app because the DLC was on sale. If it never worked to begin with then I would have thought that you can only buy DLC for the Sims 4 on the same platform as you bought the game on but the reason I'm writing this ticket is because the DLC on the EA app did work, until the 22nd of June this year, my partner was saving their game then realised it was taking longer to close than usual so they forced quit it. Since then all the DLC off the EA app did not work (the Steam DLC works fine).
Here is the issue as I understand it.
On the Sims 4 game under packs it shows the EA app DLC as owned but the game needs to restart for the EA app DLC to be installed, also clicking play and looking at their save file it shows the icons for the DLC bought off the EA app saying these packs are required to play this save file, my partner then proceeded to uninstall everything (The Sims 4 on Steam, the DLC on Steam and the EA app DLC) and re-installed it all in an attempt to fix the issue, they re-installed the Steam game and the Steam DLC but it wouldn't let them install the EA app DLC as it kept saying "There's a problem with your download. Something went wrong with your download. Give us a few minutes, then try again." (See Image "Sims.png") every time they tried to install it. To fix this issue they cleared the EA app cache which allowed the DLC to be installed on the EA app. Yet in the Sims 4 it still says the same thing in the packs that it needs to be restarted. So on the EA app the DLC is shown as installed and is shown as owned in the Sims 4 game under Packs yet still states it needs to be restarted (Obviously closing the game doesn't fix this issue).
I've tried many things to help them like looking up similar issues (like the CAS issue some people have with the DLC) but I couldn't get anything to work. So I thought this issue might be unique since I cant find anything on it, any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated, so does anybody have any ideas?
@OnePieceIsNaruto Please don't apologize for the late reply. People get back to me when they have time for troubleshooting, and it's always fine. And I myself was asleep when you replied.
Anyway, your screenshots show that Sims 4 is installed, more or less in full, three times on this computer. These are the locations:
D:\The Sims 4
D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\The Sims 4
E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\The Sims 4
Of the packs you searched for, only GP03 is installed into the second location; SP01 and SP03 are only installed in the first and third. The Delta folders hold patch data, not full pack data; the Installer folders hold records of what's been installed. If Steam is currently reading the second location when launching Sims 4, and the EA App is only installing packs into the third location, that would explain the entire problem.
You could simply delete the Steam directory on E, or at least the Sims 4 folder inside. This may be enough to force the EA App to install the packs in the correct location. If that doesn't work though, I'd suggest uninstalling everything with Revo Uninstaller. This will remove related registry entries and anything else that might be getting in the way of the packs installing properly or being recognized as owned. Instructions here in case it helps:
- Put aside your Sims 4 folder in Documents\Electronic Arts and rename it to something that doesn't include the words "Sims 4."
- Download Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine) from here.
- Launch Revo, select Sims 4 from the list, and click Uninstall.
- Once the game is uninstalled, select "Moderate" under "scanning modes," and click Scan.
- Review the list, in case there's something you want to save; otherwise, click Select All, and then Delete.
- Close Revo, and restart your computer.
Either way, there's not much point in having Sims 4 installed through the EA App as well as through Steam, so I'd suggest removing the first install location I listed as well, either through the EA App or manually if you don't end up using Revo.
