EA updates the Sims 4, there's this glitch where I can't play

Basically, the game opens like it's going to let you play only to minimize by itself. If I try to click it, it'll just keep minimizing while still "running." It's unplayable every time.

Firstly, I thought it was my mods, but even if I take out my mods, it's the same thing.

Second, I have repaired the game, it did nothing.

Lastly, I've done both uninstalling and reinstalling the game and then repairing it if it's still broken, it always remains broken.

I'm not sure how I "fixed" it last time, but the problem is constant. I have zero clue why Sims 4 is just unplayable for me.

Anyone know what's going on or have a fix? Does even EA have a fix to this?

It's really annoying since EA is still updating and making new stuff for the game...

  • @Yellow-the-Blob  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If that doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

@Yellow-the-Blob  Please try forcing the game to launch in windowed mode.  Go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, open Options.ini, search for fullscreen , and set it to 0 (zero).

If that doesn't help, please uninstall and reinstall the EA App, which your dxdiag says has crashed a few times (along with a number of Sims 4 errors).  Use Revo Uninstaller, the free version is fine, to uninstall, and restart your computer before reinstalling.

    Thank you for your help!

It works if I change the fullscreen size to 0, if I try to size it back up in the game, then it proceeds to break again.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the ea app, it had the same problem.

I guess I have to play my game with a minimized screen, but that's fine! It's not ideal, but better than nothing.

    Thank you again so much!

@Yellow-the-Blob  You should be able to play in "windowed fullscreen" (i.e. Borderless) mode rather than standard windowed.  And if you're not already using an in-game resolution of 2560x1440, which is the resolution of your laptop screen, please try that too.  Windowed mode will have a slightly lower resolution but still very close; you should be able to choose 1440p in fullscreen and borderless modes.
