EA/Origin App missing and Game Will Not Launch

Experiencing something I never have seen before:

My EA app (the one that replaced Origin) is no longer on my computer.  I am the only one on this computer so it isn't like someone uninstalled it behind me.  When I click on Sims 4 I get an error saying that Origin is not installed and it required for playing, please reinstall.

But I played just fine last night.

Also, I don't if it's related but I did recently purchase the new expansion.  Is this a related issue?  I don't understand how a program or app suddenly is removed from my device though.  Any help is appreciated - TIA

  • @Peaches327  The most common reason this would happen is an overly aggressive antivirus.  So if you have a third-party program installed, look for recent actions involving the EA App.  The App doesn't uninstall itself on its own.

For now, just reinstall the App.  If you get a message saying it's already installed, choose the option to repair.  Then try to play Sims 4.

If that doesn't work, uninstall the App with Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine), download a fresh copy of the installer, and use that.

I am experiencing the same problem as OP, your answer is unhelpful. Apps shouldn't just delete themselves but this is nevertheless that has happened.

@SpaceCatSociety  The point of my reply was not that the EA App deleted itself but that an antivirus may have quarantined a component of it.  Apps don't delete themselves, at least not in general, and the EA App certainly does not.  But it can be altered or corrupted by an outside influence just like any other program.

Thank you. I do run kapersky. Is there a way to make this stop? It's very annoying to have to download it again each day

@SpaceCatSociety  Set an exception in Kaspersky for EADesktop.exe, or for the entire contents of one of the nested folders it's inside.  You'll of course have to reistall the App again first.  I'd suggest making the exception as quickly as possible afterwards so that Kaspersky doesn't have a chance to flag anything.
