I have the same problem and I don't know what a mod or cc is, so cannot check?! It's so frustrating... the game was fine, the update has stopped the game working and I have uninstalled and reinstalled it. Will try to restore the game to factory settings.
@audiofairy If the restore to factory settings doesn't help, please post back, and describe what's happening when you try to play: when does it stop working, do you see an error code, etc.
If this is your issue though, let us know, so we can merge your posts with the master thread; you can keep an eye on it for updates and further requests for info from the EA people.
