@carromedc Please run chkdsk on your C drive. This may take a while, so it's best to start the process when you don't plan on using your laptop for at least an hour or two.
- Hit Windows key-X
- Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
- Inside the window that appears, copy and paste "chkdsk /f /r c:" without quotes, and enter
- You'll be asked to allow a restart; say yes
- When the scan is done, use this guide to find the results
You should be able to attach the report to a post as well.
When I try to do that, it says that I do not have enough authority. I'm the only one using this computer and it says I'm an administrator so I do not know what to do to get more privileges?
As you can see, I'm not that good at this stuff 🤔
@carromedc You need to run the version of PowerShell with (Administrator) in the name. It's not enough that you're using an admin account; PowerShell itself needs to be running with admin rights.
I managed to make it work but now I get this message. I pressed J to run it the next time the system restarts, hope it was correct. I tried restarting the computer but got the same result. Should I just leave the computer on or what do you think I should do?
