Error: The VC++ runtime redistributable package was not installed successfully.

Error: The VC++ runtime redistributable package was not installed successfully. Setup cannot continue (1602)

I'm using Windows 10 on a Latitude E6530 Laptop

I have been going through this 5 screen loop as shown in the screenshots attached. I have tried several solutions that have not worked. I have tried rebooting my Laptop 3 times, using the task manager to end task for "Windows Installer" so Microsoft Visual C++ could repair its self which didn't work, going to "Services" in Windows and Starting and Stopping and Restarting "Windows Installer", I checked for updates and confirmed my PC is up to date, and I tried updating my drivers which I couldn't even finish using the tutorial I was following, I even tried deleting all files associated with C++ on my PC and they redownloaded themselves and nothing changed.

I'm kinda at a loss at this point.

@Predisposition  Did you try restarting your computer after you got this error?  If so, and it happened again, look for anything running in the Task Manager, for example the EA App or EABackgroundService, that might be trying to install something.  You can kill any suspicious process you find; worst case, you need to reboot your computer again.

If that doesn't help, try a clean boot:

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than the installer, and let me know whether you can now install the 2010 runtimes.

  • @Predisposition  It's best to manually reinstall the VC++ runtimes rather than allowing the installer to do so or trying to repair your existing versions.  Start with the 2022 runtimes.  Hit Windows key-i, select Apps, scroll down to the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, click on any version from 2015 or later, and select Uninstall.  Don't touch the older versions.  You can download the newest runtimes directly from Microsoft:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

You'll need both the x86 and x64 versions of the 2015-2022 runtimes, but you can skip the ARM version, which is for a different class of device.  Restart your computer after installing.

    Repeat for the 2013 runtimes:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784

and then the 2010 runtimes if the above doesn't help:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26999

In all cases, you need both the x86 and x64 versions, but not the other version, ARM or ia.

@puzzlezaddict  Ok. I did as instructed and while trying to install some of them I got the "waiting for another install to finish" error and by using the task manager and stopping Windows installer I was able to install most of them. Now I'm stuck at the C++ 2010 service pack. I deleted them and tried installing them and got the "Another installation process is running " error except this time stopping Windows installer didn't help.

@puzzlezaddict It worked!!! Not the task manager canceling but the clean boot did it. I was able to install C++ 2010 and the game is working again.
