When putting back your save files after doing a factory reset should you put back your old scratch file or leave the newly generated one and should you also put back your old auto save file? Sorry I am a bit confused as I usually just copy and paste the whole of the old save folder when I have done it before?

Thankyou for your reply. I follow Crinricts help blog so I have already read this but I just wanted to have it clarified. If it is best to copy these files over or star with the fresh copy.
Feel free to give points to the first responder, I'm just adding my comment as a side note:
Whether or not you need to restore the original contents of those directories should be determined by the reason you've chose to reset your game to defaults.
- If the problem you've experienced was the result of neighborhood data corruption then you'll experience the same problem(s) after restoring the contents of those directories. In that case, the best solution is to export all neighborhood items to your gallery before 'resetting' your installation to defaults then import all items into your new file.
- If the problem was the result of game package corruption or failure of the Origin application then restoring all of your save data by transferring the "Electronic Arts\The Sims 4" directory back to it's original location is the best solution.
- If the problem was the result of cache corruption the best solution is to restore only your current save and allow the game to rebuild all cache files.
- If the problem was the result of save corruption or mod-related malfunctions then you'll need to restore the previous good save. If your current save is Slot_00000008.save then your previous good save will be Slot_00000008.ver0. If ver0 contains the same errors then you can roll further back by restoring ver1, ver2, ver3, etc.
- There is no reason to restore Slot_00000001 since this is generated by the game as a temp file during editing and will be rebuilt upon loading of your neighborhood from your current save.
When restoring saves, ensure that the slot number matches. If you're creating a new file and your current slot number is Slot_00000002.save then you must rename Slot_00000008.save from your original save directory to slot_00000002.save for the data to be loaded. There is no reason to delete, edit, or even open any of the other files under "My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4"

Generally you don't need either of those.
The auto save as such is pretty useless and most often the cause of issues.
I would not delete those right away but there's no reason to put them back in 99% of all cases.
If everything works fine without them, you can delete.
Thankyou very much for your replies. I have a save that I've had since the game was released and I was having some glitches so I thought I should do a factory reset. I did a full uninstall and reinstall instead and the glitches are still there so I think I will try your suggestion of uploading to the gallery and putting my sims and their houses in a new save file.

You might wanna post what problems you have. Maybe they are known issues and we can help you with them or tell you if there's anything you can do about them
I was having issues with the game crashing and small things like the age states not showing up on townies, no move household in from gallery in live mode which I still have on one save and not on another and general performance issues. So I thought if I reinstalled it without mixing discs and download and just stick to download it would be more stable. I also tried running with dual graphics cards (nvidia SLI) and I found the game was very choppy so I disabled this and it runs much smoother. Is SLI supported on sims 4? My save that I have had since the game launched is now 7000kbs and with all the patches and content added it affects your save. That's what made me think that after a while it's just better to start a new save on a fresh game, sadly.
The age no longer showing up on townies is something that affects a lot of people, if not all. For me,it sometimes does, and it sometimes doesn't. It's not something you can solve, you'll have it again in a new file.
The move in feature not working also seems hit and miss and if you have get to work and played detective, it might have something to do with the crime scenes not being properly cleaned up. That usually clears up if you load the affected house in build mode.
I don't think SLI is really supported but I'm not 100% positive on that.
Crashing could be anything really. Are you using mods/cc ? In what instances does it crash ?
I do agree that games played since release might become wonky with all the stuff added, especially if you use mods and cc.
Anyways, deleting the localthumbcache might help with the choppiness but other than that, I don't think a factory reset will help much in your case and you definitely won't need the files you asked about 🙂
The crashing usually happens when I try to load up the unplayed families in manage worlds and randomly during gameplay. As for cc and mods I never use these. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and just put the whole of the old save file back should I delete the auto save file, the scratch file and localthumbcache for game performance or leave as is? Should I also delete these on a regular basis to help with performance. Thankyou so much for your help 😊
