Re: Error Code 403:8717c2e9:20314deb

Like a lot of people are experiencing, my game will crash or get stuck on the loading screen when I try to play on specific lots or households. (Even some lots I've never played or clicked on before.) I figured fine, it's some issue caused by a recent update I'll just do my best to play a new family or lot that the issue doesn't occur on.

Today a whole new issue arose. I got an error stating "The game failed to save. Error Code: 403:8717c2e9:20314deb". Meaning, what I can access of the game, I can no longer save any progress I make. I've searched other people's forums who had the same issue and most responses were "clear your cache". I have done my absolute best to search my Sims4 folder and there is no cache to be cleared/deleted. My folders look nothing like what I'm seeing from other players screenshots. Not only that but most people say that didn't resolve the issue. So, my search continues.

I am at a loss as to what to do. Is this another issue caused from constant EA updates that somehow mess up everyone's games? Is it user error? Does anyone have a fix for this?

I am so tired of never being able to properly play this 11 year old game because of some issue or another. It's beyond frustrating.

Unfortunately after the update that occurred on August 19th, 2025 everyone was been experiencing very similar issues with their gameplay. I have yet to see any updates regarding this issue from the official EA team. No updates for potential fixes either. I wish I could be more helpful.

I’m having this issue as well. I tried to remove all cc, and it still happened so I’m thinking it’s the update. But I see some people playing absolutely fine even with mods. I just hope the sims team fixes it soon :(

    Hi,

Here's the solution to this issue :

    1. Close your game.
    2. Then, Go to your Game Folder.
    3. Click on all files named "LastException", a note with all details will be opened.
    4. On the note, there's infos on what causes your game to crash. For example, one of my note says it was the "selectable_pet" mod. You have the CC name and the location.
    5. Go to your Mod folder and delete the CC listed in EACH LastException file.
    6. Once done, close the Document tab and launch your game. Now it should be fix. Save to test.
    7. Click on the 3 little bars of the EA App. Go to "Help" and "Restore the app"
    8. Click "Empty cache" VERY IMPORTANT. I have also put the "localthumbcache" file away, to be sure.
    9. Now, everything should work fine. AT LEAST, it worked for me !
  • DWould Clearing EA App cache is not necessary for testing and will not have any effect on how the game sees mods.

You can also save a LOT of time by using the current Broken/Updated Mods & CC lists. A lot of reports and testing were likely done before you started the process. The current list is always pinned in the forums. Subscribe to it for notification of updates, which are about once a day.

Hi, thanks for your insight. Actually, this method was faster  than scrolling the list of broken CC as it was directly named on the file. Plus, the forum's list doesn't and can't cover every existing items. But its still a good thing everything is available somewhere for everybody to take a look. I was just sharing what worked for me here to help others :)
