@fathomsealskin Please go into Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4, right-click on the saves folder and select Copy, then right-click on the desktop and select Paste. This way, you'll havea backup of all your saves in case you need it later.
Next, try manually recovering a backup save, as described here:
