Game crashing randomly

Hi, help please?

My sims game keeps crashing at random points. At first, I noticed it was any time I tried to place cupboard/surfaces items from Dream Home. Then it progressed to just random points in the game.

It has been like this for a few weeks now.

I have tried repairing the game, I have deleted lots of older/unused families, I have uninstalled and resintalled the games (I thought I had checked for any left over files after uninstalling).

I jsut don't understand how to fix this. I don't use mods, only the odd cheat code that I have always used.

I don't know whether my computer installed the latest update as I have it set to automatic but I have seen lots of people with similar (though not the same) issues since around the same time.

Help please... btw.. computer illiterate so be gentle with any instructions lol

  • Hennerrz  Please try running Sims 4 in DirectX 11 mode.  How to do so is covered here:

    DirectX 11 (DX11) for The Sims 4 - A Step-by-Step Guide | EA Forums - 11811172

If that doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Thank you!! I followed those instructions for the DirectX on EA and it seems to work.

But now I have, for want of a better phrase, ghost plants. Some have turned icy blue, while some of my harvestable plants are just invisible - other than a faint white outline.

Any ideas on that one please?

  • Mine was doing this a lot as well but updating the drivers for my video card worked. So I got the updated drivers and played with no problems for several weeks, then I got the crash again. I checked for video card updates, and sure enough there had been one the day before. Installed the updated driver, no more problems. So...update your driver for your video card would be my advice. Run dxdiag to see what you have then either manually install or if you have Nvidia they have an app that will do the work for you.
