Game crashing when exiting CAS

Hello, Simmers!

Currently having some trouble playing the game as it always crashes when exiting Create-A-Sim.

I usually play with mods, but I have tried disabling the mods, updating all current mods and still the game crashes whenever I exit Create-A-Sim.

To clarify, this happens if I create a new save and try to create a new family (game crashes when I save the new family) or if I load an old save and try, for example, to change the clothes of the family using the dresser options in game. Game always crashes when I save and exit the Create-a-Sim.

I've tried deleting the localthumbcache file as well and it hasn't fixed my issue.

Anyone can provide some help?

  • Hello, @puzzlezaddict 🙂

I tried before moving the Mods folder and deleting the package file, it didn't work. I've tried it again today at your request, but the game crashes still.

I've attached my dxdiag to this post.

    Thanks!

@hallowkitty8872  Your dxdiag doesn't list any Sims 4 crashes, which might simply be because other apps have thrown enough errors since the last time you tried to play to crowd out anything related to Sims 4.  Some of these errors are failed Windows updates, so please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

Try again to play Sims 4, and if you get another crash, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

  • Hi!

The game keeps crashing even after following through with all the Windows Updates.

Here's the error regarding the last crash. It's in Portuguese, hope that's okay.

@hallowkitty8872  Posting the error in Portuguese is fine.  The information is easy to find in pretty much any language.

This error points to a Windows resource that's so fundamental to the OS, it's unlikely to be corrupt considering your computer works in general.  But it's still worth running a repair install to address any potential OS issues.  Here's how (option two):

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/repair-install-windows-11-with-an-in-place-upgrade.418/#Two

This shouldn't delete any of your data, but if you get to step 14 and are NOT asked to keep personal files and apps, back out and start over.

If this doesn't make a difference, please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of Sims 4 and the EA App, as described here:

  • @puzzlezaddict okay, so, Sims 4 is back to working properly (I think!) 🙂

I reinstalled the game through the EA App and I can now access CAS and exit without the game crashing. I reinstalled all my mods as well and everything seems to be working fine.
I didn't try to repair my OS installation but it seems to be doing okay for now, so if I need it again in the future I will continue with that solution.

Thanks so much for all the help provided!
