Game keeps freezing...but also it doesn't? (it's not mods)

My game keeps freezing on the main page before I can even start playing one of my saves. It even loads up much slower than before and sometimes will seem to freeze on the game loading screen. When I minimize the game and reopen it, it will do things while the game is minimized (idk if this makes sense, but I can use my laptop's touchscreen to click something even though the game is frozen, and when I minimize and reopen the game it will be like if I had clicked it normally). I know it's not a mod problem because I've been able to shut the mods off and the game still freezes. I was also worried it was because my computer is running out of storage space, so I bought an SD card and downloaded the game on there instead of on my laptop, and it still freezes. Has this happened to anyone else before? This has been going on for a little more than a month now, and I'm getting extremely frustrated. Thanks to anyone for their help!

  • @linds_41299  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can play normally.

If that doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

@linds_41299  Your dxdiag shows that a component of McAfee is crashing over and over.  While this may have nothing to do with the Sims 4 issues, it would be best to uninstall McAfee.  Use the removal tool the company provides:

    https://www.mcafee.com/support/?articleId=TS101331&page=shell&shell=article-view

You can reinstall it if you want, but please do test Sims 4 at least once without it.  As long as you don't do anything else at the same time, your computer should be safe.

If that doesn't help, please try the suggestions in the accepted sollution of this thread:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/PC/Sims-4-Crashing-Freezing-Lag-Surface-Pro-7/td-p/13439205

You might simply have the same issue as the others in that thread, with the McAfee problem being a red herring.  But I can't be sure because the McAfee crashes have crowded out any other errors in your dxdiag.
