Game lags in CAS after lovestruck updates

Hi,

I am experiencing very bad lags in CAS for the past month. My game is unplayable at the moment. I moved the Sims 4 folder to the desktop and launched a new clean version of the game with no mods/CC, the issue persisted. The lag starts about 3-5 mins after going into CAS.

I am attaching the DxDiag.

Could someone please take a look and help me out? Thank you

  • @olgasaraiva  Games should run better, not worse, when the laptop is charging.  The fact that performance is worse suggests the laptop might be overheating.  Do you have a hardware monitoring app you like to use and that would report CPU temperatures?  If not, try hwinfo, which is free; you can download the portable version if you'd prefer not to install it.

Whatever app you use, open it before launching Sims 4, and periodically check temperatures while you're playing.  If you use hwinfo, it has a LOT of sensors, but the important ones for this are CPU core temps (one per core), GPU core and hotspot temps, and any value that shows up in red.  Make sure you're looking at the maximum readings, not only the current ones.  And of course test with the laptop plugged in and charging.

  • @olgasaraiva  Thanks for testing a clean folder and providing the dxdiag, which would have been my first two requests.  All but one of the errors in your dxdiag are generic Windows update issues, so it's a good idea to clean those up.  Please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

For the game itself, as a test, please take your computer offline before opening Sims 4.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable.  This is not a fix, just a helpful way to narrow down the source of the issue.  You won't have access to the Gallery, of course, but the rest of the game should work as normal.  Let me know whether it helps.

Thank you for taking the time to help 🙂 Yes, playing offline (I chose the offline option in Origin, disabled online resources in game settings and then run the game) fixed the lags and the game runs smoothly without any interruptions. Does it mean that there is a problem with my internet connection or it is a problem with the game itself?

@olgasaraiva  Do you have another network you can test with?  For example, you could set your phone as a mobile hotspot, using data rather than your home wifi, and connect to that.

If that doesn't help, or you can't test it, try setting the EA App in offline mode but keeping your computer online.  If the game still works, leave the EA App online but disable Online Social Features.  Restart your computer between tests.

Hi, I did all of the test you asked for 🙂

    Computer side:

The system scan didn't show any errors. The final message is: protection did not find any security violations. There were no updates to install.

    Game side:

Connected my phone as hotspot- no difference, the game still lags

I tried a lot of different combinations, playing off line, online. I wasn't getting any consistent results. I have however noticed that the game seems to lag when the computer is connected to the charger. I already had this problem about 1.5 years ago. Maybe the laptop needs to be fixed again.
