Game Launching in Taskbar

When I launch the Sims from the EA App, the game loads in the taskbar: the Sims4 icon appears in the taskbar, but the game never loads. Clicking on this icon opens a blank window which drops immediately back to the Taskbar.

I've repaired my game, changed the settings on EA to prevent automatic updates and launching on start-up, tried without my game save folder, cleared EA cache, restarted, and a combination of these. There appears to be no rhyme or reason - for example, after a windows update the game finally launched last night. Today the game will not launch again.

This problem was seen once before - in April, sorted by changing the settings on the EA app. This is now no longer working.

Any Help gratefully accepted.

  • @Hordeumcs  Does playing without the "game save folder" also mean playing with no mods?  If not, that's the first thing to try.

If that doesn't help, try launching the game in windowed mode.  Go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, open options.ini, search for fullscreen , and set it to 0 (zero).  If this helps, you can go back to fullscreen, but at the same time, set the game to use the same resolution as your monitor.

If you still can't play, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

    Hi Puzzlezaddict,

Thanks for the reply. I removed the game folder: all saves and mods, and this made no difference. I think my problem is with the EA App, as now it is not loading my games library at all, even after a repair and a restart. It's telling me 'Things are taking a little longer than usual to load up. Hang tight while we try to solve the problem'. Until I can sort that I cannot make any progress with running the Sims.

@Hordeumcs  Try forcing the App to update.  Go here:

    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\EA Desktop

and launch the EAUpdater.exe.  Restart your computer when it's done and before trying to use the App.

Thanks for your help - playing Sims4 in windows mode seems to be working and the EA App is behaving itself. Fingers crossed. Much appreciated.
