@racharlene Please test with a new save in a clean game folder. Move your entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop. When you launch the game, a clean folder will be created with no content. Don't add anything to this folder yet; just start a new save and let me know whether the problem happens there too. (It's a good idea to let it run a couple days and to test a family with both adults and children.)
If the issue is present in the new save, please try a clean boot. Use another new save in another clean folder.

@racharlene The unsupported video card message only shows up when you have a new options.ini file, even though your card remains unsupported. Since your options file was in the folder you moved, the new file means you get the new message again.
The unsupported card could be related, or it could be irrelevant. To see how the game is reading your hardware, please go into Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3, open the file labeled config.log, copy the lines between "Graphics device info" (about 25 lines down) and "Options" (40 lines down), and paste it into a reply.
It would also be helpful to see a dxdiag. And please let me know whether the clean boot had any effect.
