Game will not launch at all.
I'll click "play" and the mouse will change to the "thinking mouse with the circle" for about 5 seconds and then stop. Then play button will be gray for a bit and then turn orange. No error messages....

The game won't run like this, but if it can get past authentication, then you can set Origin to offline mode and restart, then check again.
If this then works, try double checking all your security blocks/whitelists, and/or running a malware scanner.

Still not working in safe mode with networking...
Whatever is causing this is a microsoft process. The only way I've been able to make progress is by stopping all startups and processes in msconfig. Tons of people are having this problem.
And now EA won't let me return the game since they think I've "launched it"... very frustrating and a massive waste of $75. If I can't get this to work soon I will never buy anything that has to do with EA in the future.
So I'm at the point of just disabling random processes to see which one might cause it.
I disabled lsass.exe and this made a difference. Upon trying to play sims 4, it says unable to connect to EA servers (but I still am on the internet). Not sure if this will help.
I am seeing TS4.exe and activationUI.exe appear in processes now for a second or two and then disappear.... no error message. Tried everything.
ActivationUI will disappear before TS4.exe does

It might be worth running the system file checker in case it's something fundamental with the windows install.

Iass.exe is a core system file, though it is reputedly a faily common malware filename too.
