  • @Maddi1250  You're not nearly at that point, and besides, no software issue is so problematic that it could withstand a clean install of Windows.  But you're not there either.  Instead, please do a repair install of Windows, which will give you a reasonably-intact Windows install without erasing any data.

As said, this should preserve your data, but if you get to step 13 and are NOT asked to keep personal files and apps, back out and start over.

Once you've done the repair install, try again to play, and if you can't, post the Reliability Monitor info, as described.

  • @Maddi1250  Thanks for the dxdiag, which shows a number of generic Windows errors.  So please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

For the Sims 4 issue itself, please restart your computer, wait five minutes without opening any apps at all, and then open the Task Manager.  Let me know how much RAM is in use: the percent value in the Memory tab.  Then try to play with nothing open except the EA App.  If you still can't play, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of this most recent attempt to launch Sims 4.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

    Image Version: 10.0.19045.4780

    [======== 14.0% ]
    Error: 605

The specified buffer contains ill-formed data.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log
    PS C:\Windows\system32>

At this point do i throw away the whole computer..
