Solved

gameName already running

%gameName% is already running

This issue shows up on both the Sims 4 as well as Dragon Age Inquisition.
3 Other games that I have installed, have no problem (DA2, ME2, ME3)

From another post on this forum, I followed the advice to move the Electronic Arts folder from Documents to the desktop.
Starting the Sims 4, gives the same result as before.

Other things I tried :
Game files repair on the Sims 4
Uninstall the EA app.
Reinstall the EA app.
App Recovery > Clear cache
Start the EA app as administrator
Installed newest Nvidia driver

Several system restarts
I do not use onedrive or any other networked backup service.
I started Windows in a clean environment, all services except Microsoft and EA app, disabled.

DISM and SFC, fixed some system errors, but game issue remains.

All to no avail.

If you wonder if it ever ran on my system, yes it did, I can provide you a screenshot from the app that shows a 'time played 7192 hrs 32 minutes' (Yes, I'm addicted)
I hope someone here can help me out.

System :
Windows 10 x64 - i7 4770K, 16GB RAM, C: 319GB free,GTX 1070 driver version : 546.17 from 11/14/2023

D: 173GB free (D:\Origin\The Sims 4)

Security software : Malwarebytes (I went as far as shutting that down, which didn't help either)

Logs added as 'new folder.rar'
The EADesktop log shows many errors, but I don't know what to do about those.

I will assemble a new computer if this issue is not resolved soon. But if the problem is with my account, that wouldn't solve it either.

  • @Spinnerke  Since you've already tried most of the usual interventions, please create a new admin Windows account and try playing Sims 4 (and DA:I) there.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account.  You shouldn't need to reinstall anything to load either game, but your existing user content won't be available.  That can be addressed later, of course; for now, just let me know how it goes.

    And that fixed it.
    The Sims 4 is running.

What is my next step to get my saves and CC back in order ?

If I copy the contents of Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 over to the profile of the new admin account, does that fix it or does that copy the problem along with it ?

@Spinnerke  You can absolutely copy the Sims 4 folder to the new account.  Rather than using an external drive, I'd suggest dropping the files into C:\Users\Public, which all accounts can access.

Copying over the files might reintroduce the issue, but it's unlikely to do so in a way that's irreversible.  I'd suggest moving over individual files, not the folders they're in, for example dragging the individual saves into the new saves folder rather than replacing the new saves folder with your old one.  This is only about how to place files in the new Sims 4 folder; you can just drop the entire old Sims 4 folder into Public and pick it apart once you're back in the new Windows account.

Please do test the files in small batches, testing each time so you find out right away if there's a problem.
