Help! Can I use an external hard drive for both Xbox one and pc?

Hi so I’ve been wanting to play sims 4 again for a while but I haven’t got a gaming laptop as such as I had one laptop that ran both sims 3 and 4 alt though it wasn’t a gaming one I still enjoyed playing sims 4 even though it was laggy but my cya has recently knocked coffee over it so it’s obvs broken and I’ve been trying to save to get a gaming laptop but I’m struggling. I have got the jumper EZbook x3 which I’ve managed to get sims 3 back on but I really want sims 4 but I haven’t got any space so I’m wondering if an external hard drive  will fix the problem… I’ve currently got one for my Xbox one but am wondering if I could use it for my laptop aswel  in order to get back into playing sims.. will this work?

i have ordered a 256GB memory stick too but it hasn’t arrived yet and I’m not sure if that will be enough space as Google’s telling me all sorts of different answers… would really appreciate the help as I miss playing sims and is driving me mad how I can’t play it.

thanks in advance.

  • @Ebslou26  256 GB is enough for Sims 4; it's actually enough for Sims 3 and 4, plus all their content, if you're careful.

You could use the external drive you have for your XBox with your laptop, but you'd need to format it and it then wouldn't be usable with your XBox, at least until you formatted it again.  So unless you only plan to use the drive with one device at a time and don't mind erasing it each time you switch, it's not a good solution.

@Puzzleaddict thank you for getting back to me. I’m so thankful sims 4 will work with the 256gb, I guess I’ll have to wait for it to arrive then as the external drive won’t be good after all as don’t want to have to delete stuff and then get it back it’s to much bother. Are you sure the 256GB memory stick will be good for my laptop for sims 4?

thanks again for the reply and advice

@Ebslou26  Without knowing exactly what you ordered, I can't tell you how well the memory stick will work with Sims 4.  But I can tell you that 256 GB is plenty of space.  Even with all packs installed, Sims 4 takes up something in the range of 50 GB of storage, and save files are relatively small.  So even if you stored all your user data on the memory stick and had a large pile of custom content, space would not be an issue.

It’s just an ordinary memory stick with 256gb of space on it… hopefully it will work then. Thanks for the help. Hopefully it’ll work on my laptop too otherwise I’ll be so sad and disappointed.
