Help! Choosing a High-Performance Laptop for The Sims 4 & Gaming UK

Hi everyone,

I’ve been searching for a new laptop all week, but I’m struggling to find the perfect fit and could really use some advice. I’m looking for a high-performance laptop, primarily for playing The Sims (with all packs, lots of mods, and custom content) but also capable of handling other games smoothly.

Here’s what I’m ideally looking for:

• Budget: Around £3000 (willing to stretch slightly for the right specs).

• Display: Luxury 17-18” screen with excellent resolution.

• Build: Preferably a metal chassis for durability and aesthetics.

• Performance: Powerful enough to stay super fast, even with heavy modding and multitasking.

• Cooling: Quiet and well-rated fans would be a huge plus.

I want something that will last and handle everything I throw at it with ease. If anyone has recommendations or insight into specific models or brands that fit these needs, I’d really appreciate it!

Thank you so much in advance for your help.

  • @gouldielocks321  That is quite a budget, with expectations to match.  Have you considered getting a Mac?  I'm completely serious here.  If macOS is not a problem, then the only mark against a 16" MacBook Pro is that the screen is a little small for your taste, but you might find it's large enough in person.  And the resolution on the screen (3456x2234) is about as high as anything you can find in the Windows laptop market.  Plus it can get very bright and looks fantastic.

Current Macs have ARM chips, which run much cooler than x86 chips (Intel and AMD CPUs) and standard laptop GPUs (Nvidia/AMD/Intel).  The fans are also very quiet.  Even the entry-level M4 chip can run the game on ultra settings with plenty of room to spare, and you could upgrade from there however you wanted.

I admit my perspective is skewed because my everyday laptop is a 16" MacBook Pro with an M1 Max chip.  But I pick out Windows PCs for people all the time, so that's my expectation with threads like this.  Yet when I read your description, it felt like you were talking about my laptop or one like it.

If you'd definitely prefer a Windows PC, that's understandable, and I'll put together a list of high-end models that should meet your expectations.
