Help With Tray and Save Files

Today I accidentally made the mistake of permanently deleting my sims 4 files. Like completely from the recycling bin. But I did some googling and found there is a way to restore them. So I did that using Disk Drill. I restored my save and tray file and put them back in where they belong but when I open the game nothing there. It still just says well, nothing. No saves and nothing in the gallery. I have all my cc that I used originally with my saves and such but still nothing. I don't know what to do. I did everything that was instructed online but still nothing. Any help please?

  • @cheeseycakeballs  Please make sure the saves and Tray files are in the Sims 4 folder the game is actually reading.  Here's how to find that folder:

    https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2018/07/how-to-find-your-user-folder/

Compare that location to the one where your saves are.  To find the file path for a given file or folder, right-click it and select Properties > General, then look for the Location.

Having said that, these data-recovery tools generally do not recover Sims 4 files to the point of usability.  These programs can never recover every single byte, so they make guesses for the missing data or try to use generic-enough data that the program in question will be able to use the files.  That's fine for a text file or spreadsheet—you might need to manually fix a few entries here and there, but otherwise receive an intact file.  It doesn't work so well with Sims 4, whether because the data-recovery program doesn't know what to do about the missing data or because the game can't deal with even mildly corrupt files.

The bottom line is, I'm not sure there's a way to actually recover your data.  But please do check the file paths to make sure that's not the issue.
