I can't type in the cheat bar or debug box or in the gallery to comment

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.105.345.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Every single TS4 EP, GP, SP and kit to-date!
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try to type in the cheat bar, type debug into the in-game search box or type anything in the gallery to comment on a Sim, build or room.
What happens when the bug occurs? I can’t type anything in the aforementioned boxes in the game or in the gallery. However, I can type everywhere if I close the game and restart it.
What do you expect to see? The ability to type in game in the cheat bar, in-game search box and to make gallery comments --- every time.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. It started about a month ago, and I’m up-to-date on game updates, and I’m running the current version of TS4.

@coolsim9999999  Did you test with no mods or custom content?  You don't need to save your progress.

Please also test in both fullscreen and windowed modes.

    Hi @puzzlezaddict

Sorry for the delay.  Busy week...

I checked and no mods or CC are installed in my game, I just thought they were. I also checked all 3 modes and the problem still happens half the time.

Could you give me the link to where Crin moved this for troubleshooting please?

    Thanks a lot,

    Coolsim

@coolsim9999999  This is where Crin moved the thread: you're posting in it.  This is the PC tech section—you can see the nested subforums listed out above the thread title—as opposed to bugs, because s proper bug report needs to involve testing on a mod- and cc-free game.  Even so, this sounds like a system issue, not a game bug.  If nothing else, we'd have a lot more reports if the issue were the game itself.

Anyway, please try playing in a clean boot:

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.
