I got mine to work. not sure if its a miracle or what. I to was playing with no issues for a few days. then it stopped launching. after all I tried, thanks to all of your postings. tonight, I just tried something on my own.
I left my origin alone. uninstalled my sims 4. clicked on the download link in my Origin email Id gotten when I had purchased my sims 4 just on a whim. It said an updated version was detected did I wish to install the later version. I said yes. I had to go in and stop process of my UPDATED version through taks manager as it prompted me to. then, I let it download. I then logged in, like normal and went to my games. clicked on my sims 4 and clicked on download. I let it go. after it installed, I right clicked on the icon, clicked compatiblity, change setting for all users, chose windows xp service pack 2, and for the hell of it, aftter clicking ok, on the first compatibility page selected the 640x480 resolution option. and hit apply. hit my sims 4 icon, not expecting anything to happen, and there it was. holy **bleep**. i reallyhope this helps someone.
im running on a brand new built for me toshiba laptop windows 8.1. all the bells and whistles. im no techy, i dont understand techy or programming lingo, but im patient and like to research. this was truly i think dumb luck.
