insufficient memory wont launch game

Hello, when i try to open sims 4 i keep getting a message saying insufficient memory but I have a lot of memory available. I tried to delete and reinstall sims but that didn't work. should I delete origin and sims and see if that works?

  • @DeniKriz  Your computer is using far too much memory just on startup—Windows alone should only need about 2.0 GB.  Still, even what you have left over should be more than enough to run Sims 4.  So either you have two separate issues here, or something else, perhaps an antivirus, is both using too much RAM at startup and using even more when you launch the game.

Anyway, the next step is to clean boot your computer:

When you reboot, check memory use again, and if it's more than, say, 2.5 GB, go through the Task Manager's background processes list ending any task that doesn't belong to Microsoft or Intel.  If you accidentally kill the wrong service and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer.  When RAM use is lower than 2.5 GB, launch the game again and let me know what happens.  By the way, check memory use with Origin open but before you try to play, just in case Origin itself is the issue.  If it is, put Origin in offline mode and see whether it helps.

If you get the same error and Origin is not the problem, please try playing with your antivirus disabled.  As long as you don't do anything other than launch Sims 4, your computer should be safe.  I'm not suggesting you go without any antivirus at all for longer than it takes to test, just that this is useful information to have.

  • @DeniKriz  You're right, your computer has more than enough memory to run Sims 4.  Do you get the same error message if you restart your computer immediately before launching the game?  If so, please let me know how much RAM your computer is using immediately after a restart.  You can see the value in the Task Manager.

Please also let me know where in the process of loading Sims 4 you get the error message, for example as soon as the game launches or when you've just selected a save.

Thank you so very much! It turned out that my antivirus was stopping it from running but I was able to allow only the sims to be excluded from it! Again thank you! You are a wonderful person!
