Invisible Objects

Certain objects have become invisible.  "Mortimer's Secret" bookcase, and the left end version of the cottage living upper cabinet are invisible, regardless of game mode.  however, they do become visible in outside lighting, and can be highlighted and interacted with.  (Also, the bookcase's glass detail and shadows remain.)  Mods are disabled, I've repaired the game, and I've deleted caches.

  • @Hotchar  Please remove the -dx11 command line argument and instead force Sims 4 to use the Nvidia graphics card.  Right-click the desktop, select the Nvidia Control Panel, click Manage 3D Settings > Global settings, and choose the high-performance Nvidia processor.  If this works, in that the game is in DX11 mode—you can check the version in the lower-right corner of the Main Menu—it's fine to try forcing the Nvidia GPU only in Program settings, for TS4_x64 and TS4_Launcher_x64.  But please do try global settings first, as I've heard from a few people who say the program settings didn't apply.

Let me know what's still invisible, if anything, and whether your problem looks like this known issue:

Please also make sure you haven't enabled laptop mode in the graphics settings; it would be in the lower-right corner, below post processing and uncompressed sim textures.

  • @Hotchar  Please let me know whether this happens in DirectX 11 mode.  You can force the game to use DX11 mode through the EA App: open your game library, click Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and add -dx11 in the command line box.

Please also run a dxdiag and attach it to a post, for reference.

There's a master thread related to the bookcase at least, and your post might be merged into it, but it would be useful to get a sense of your computer's hardware first.

Using dx11 fixed it, though load in may have taken longer, maybe.

ps. for some reason I thought EA had put an in game toggle for that already, but apparently not.

  • Oops, it fixed the bookcase, but now certain plants (including death flower, Christmas rose) become invisible outdoors.  unless that was already a different problem that i didn't notice because the file i noticed the problem on was using a greenhouse.

First off, Thank you, I meant to say that earlier.

Second, it looks like laptop mode really is the operative thing here.  I tried it with and without laptop mode, and with and without the set graphics card (and the command line argument.)  as far as I can tell, using the specific graphics card didn't change anything, but turning off laptop mode had both the plants and the bookcase visible.  (going back to dx9 in laptop mode toggles between bookcase and plants.)

As far as i can tell, this isn't something to do with that other post, since that mentions it being out of season plants, and this was a death flower and christmas rose in winter.

So, yeah.   it's laptop mode.  but since it is a laptop, and I've already replaced the fans once, I'll deal with it.  Thanks again!

  • @Hotchar  You really don't need to use laptop mode.  It's actually more like potato mode, as in, for very low-end machines; the setting itself disables Advanced Rendering.  There's no benefit to laptops specifically, and not using it shouldn't tax your hardware.  Of course, if you want to use it, that's fine, but it's not necessary on your computer.
