Is this a laptop that can play the sims?

athosing​  That depends on what exact processor and graphics chip this laptop has.  This shouldn't be a bad option no matter the chip (as long as it's not six years old), but depending on the hardware, you might be able to do significantly better for £500.  So please post a link to the product page.

If you'd like other suggestions too, please list your budget and any other considerations that matter to you, for example screen size.

my budget is about £700 / £800 at a stretch. I don't really care about screen size, just not a machine that's hefty as I'm physically disabled and can't lift much. I've also had two acers ( v16 and nitro 16 ) in the last year and both were faulty so I'm trying to avoid gaming laptops for this reason.  I would also prefer currys or amazon to buy from vc I feel like I'm a little more protected within them. 

any help would be super appreciated.

I have heard good things about the Acer aspire tbh I just fell out of love considering the two previous were so faulty. I think I'll take your advice and avoid Amazon because they do like to change things on people. 

also if you have time I'd definitely hear your thoughts on a little more expensive laptops! I'm really blind when it comes to this stuff I get so confused. I appreciate all you've done so far though!

athosing​  My thoughts on more-expensive non-gaming laptops is they'd have to get a lot more expensive (maybe £1,000-1,200) before you'd see any meaningful performance improvement.  That's because to do better than the second laptop I linked, you'd need gaming-tier hardware, and it's expensive to fit that kind of power into a lightweight chassis and provide adequate cooling.

You can of course find other ~£700 options with equivalent hardware to what's in the laptops I linked.  But rather than list them all, I'd like to know what it is you're looking for so I can narrow things down for you.

Honestly all I really want is a laptop that can handle the sims with most packs and maybe mccc? I only use my laptop for writing beyond that. I don't need it to be all singing all dancing. I like the look of the second! I did think amd ryzen was meant to be better? Someone on reddit told me that, but if intel core works too that seems alright to me.

 Would you say the second one is the best out of the lot? Maybe I can give Acer one last attempt. Third time lucky haha 

athosing​  Reddit is pretty hit or miss: you might get someone who knows their hardware, or you might get someone who remembers hearing something a couple years ago that they didn't even understand at the time.  AMD isn't better than Intel to the extent that any AMD processor or graphics chip is better than any from Intel.  It's about the exact specs, and the generation.

Since Sims 4 will tax the graphics chip more than any other component, at least relative to the various components' capabilities, you can focus on that alone and not worry about the rest.  The graphics chip in the second laptop I linked is faster than the others, and the hardware in all three is otherwise more than adequate, so that's the end of it from a performance standpoint.

I would guess you'd be able to run all current Sims 4 packs together on high-ultra graphics settings on the second, and possibly the first, and on high settings on the third.  But you might be able to go higher than that, depending on your play style and how smooth you want the game to be.  It's fine to experiment.

If you're not comfortable buying another Acer, the first laptop is a great choice too.  Sure it's not as fast as the second, but it's still very good and a very reasonable price for the hardware.

Mods typically don't affect the graphics processing part of the game.  Custom content does at times, but that depends on how the cc items are made.

I'm going to go for the second. I know I've had bad luck with acers but I'm hoping this one will be fine. It's a good price, it's got a good screen, it should play the sims just fine. Thank you for all your help looking, I really do appreciate it.
