Playing Sims 4 with mods on external hard drive 2026
Hi! I have never been on a forum before so I apologize for all the things I do wrong. I want to find out how the best way to play Sims 4 through an external hard drive works. Everything I can find is still using origin and players are saying it’s different. Can someone please tell me the correct hard drive to buy and how to actually do it? Thank you!Best non-gaming laptop for the sims 4
Hi! I’ve recently been looking for a non-gaming laptop that is suitable for the sims 4, with mods, cc and the game packs. Is having a non-gaming laptop the best? Or is it best to have a gaming laptop? As I would like to have a non-gaming one for school work as well. Thank you!388Views0likes12CommentsCan I play The Sims 4 on my laptop?
Hi, I have a question about whether I can play The Sims 4 on my laptop or not. I have a Lenovo Ideapad 17,3 I3- 1215U. According to the system requirements on the EA website, my laptop meets the minimum requirements. Only the video card I’m not sure about. I have only the base game installed and I have no mod’s and cc. I play no other games on that laptop. Besides for The Sims, I use my laptop for typing, e-mail, internet and watching You Tube video’s. I looked up information on google and everything that I can find there, say’s that my laptop should be able to run The Sims 4, although on low-minimum settings. It say’s that I should be able to play it even with a few expansions packs, and that I would get a problem if I would have all the expansion packs or cc and mods. But at the computer store where I bought the laptop, they say that nowadays, to be able to play games, you should have a gaming laptop. I just think that isn’t true, because all the information I find say’s different. They say my laptop doesn’t have a video card, so I can’t play The Sims 4 on it. I think it’s probably true that I don’t have a video card, but on the internet it say’s that my laptop has a integrated Intel UDH Graphics, and that I’m able to play the game with that. (This is what it say’s on google. I’m not sure what video card/graphics I have). I would appreciate it if someone can help me find out whether my laptop can run The Sims 4 or not, at least the base game. I would like to add a few expansion pack’s, but it is not necessary. If it’s possible, I would like to add ‘Cats and dogs’, ‘Seasons’ and ‘Cottage living’. Thanx in advance.CC still not working after 23/3/26 update + saves file is empty???
Hello! My CC and mods haven't been working since the 17/3/26 update. I updated my game again on 23/3/26 and have tried various different things to try get my CC to work again but it's just not showing up. All my mods are up to date. I saw a post that says to move the whole Sims 4 folder to desktop & let the game create a new folder then transfer everything into the new folder so I went to do that but... my saves folder is empty. Which is weird because all my saves are still showing up as normal in game, but there's nothing in the saves folder, nothing in my OneDrive, and nothing in my hard drive. So I'm scared to move the Sims 4 folder out because I'm scared to lose all my current saves. Please help! <3Laptop recommendations (AUS)
Hi everyone! I'm needing to look into a new laptop as my current has had issues since shortly after I got it. My current laptop is an Acer Nitro V 15, and it runs Sims 4 great, never had any issues in that regard. The issues it's having are unrelated to gaming but I would like to look into a different type of laptop regardless (I had an Acer Nitro 5 prior to this one and this was a replacement for that one because of issues it had). My budget is probably max $1400-1500 AUD. Current specs are: I don't mind going backwards in specs a little, as long as it will run Sims 4 with all packs, plus mods and CC (my mods folder is over 26gb), smoothly and without issue. I don't need 1TB of storage but don't want any less than 512GB. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!Game gives a black home screen
Hi, Since the last update, including the two fixes from the past few days, my game gives me a fully black screen when I load into the home menu. It has made the game completely unplayable. I have mods and CC; I have removed those, and it still happens. I have verified the files on steam and done a repair game on EA. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and it has not fixed this. Please help187Views0likes3CommentsGame No Longer Reads User Folder on External Drive (Junction Broken)
Since the March 2026 update, The Sims 4 will no longer read my existing user folder, located on my external Samsung USB hard drive. Before the update, I used a junction/symbolic link from: C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to my external drive, and the game loaded normally for years. After the update, the game now ignores the linked folder completely. It recreates a brand‑new “The Sims 4” folder on C: every time and refuses to read the junction even though Windows recognises the link correctly. The game itself is installed on the external drive and still runs fine. Only the user data folder is being rejected. I have tested the following: – Recreated the junction, Tried a symbolic link – Verified permissions on the external drive – Copied the folder back to C: (the game loads normally there) – Confirmed the issue only occurs when the user folder is on the external drive This behaviour started only after the March 2026 update, so it appears the patch introduced a new restriction or bug that prevents the game from reading user data from external/removable drives, even through valid NTFS links. My C: drive does not have enough space to store my saves, mods, and CC, so this change has made the game unplayable for me. Please confirm whether this is an intentional change or a bug, and whether support for linked or external user folders will be restored - as without this I have spent thousands on this game that cannot be played.Info needed

Since Monday (so before the new update) I can't play the game for more than half an hour without my computer restarting with the message "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart". This message flashes on the screen for a split second before restarting, so I don't have enough time to provide a screenshot or error code. I downloaded HWinfo and it seems like the issue is because of overheating. Right before my mini pc reaches 90 degrees is when it crashes and restarts. I'm confused because this happened overnight and had been working perfect before. The Sims is also the only game that causes it, other heavy games do not crash. I play on a Beelink SER5 Pro Mini Pc that I purchased around 2 years ago and has been working fantastic up until now. I also play with CC, I already tried removing all the CC and starting a new save, but it makes no difference. It seems like this is a Sims 4 issue for me and not a pc one as it happened overnight and does not occur with other games, but I would still like to hear your thoughts on this and any advice as I can't think of anything that might have changed from Sunday to Monday.
