Keeps Switching to Legacy Edition???

For the second time in two weeks, I've gone to load up my Sims 4 game only to find the shortcut icon has disappeared and that any attempt to load the game through Origin now tries to load the Legacy Edition (which I've never downloaded and don't need, my computer is perfectly capable of running the regular game) and brings up this error message:

"Unable to migrate the user data directory to Legacy Edition. The Sims 4 Legacy Edition will continue with new data. Visit help.ea.com for more information."

The game then refuses to load because I don't HAVE the Legacy Edition (and again, don't need it), attempting to repair it fails, and the only solution seems to be deleting all Sims 4 files from my computer and reinstalling everything, which takes several hours thanks to my having purchased all the packs and DLC.

I am literally doing nothing to cause this. I play the game, save, exit, turn off the computer, and then at random the next time I go to play, this happens again. I don't use any mods or CC, am not making any changes to my computer or messing with any files, and have no idea why this keeps happening.

  • @alakurielle  It sounds like your antivirus program might be deleting TS4_x64.exe, which some programs like to do these days.  If you want to double-check, the .exe is within the game's progam files; unless you changed the default install location in Origin, the full file path will be:

    Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin

Repairing the game normally puts back TS4_x64.exe, but not if your antivirus blocks it.  It's often enough to set exceptions for TS4_x64.exe and Origin.exe in your antivirus, but you may need to add them to another list as well, depending on which program you use.

That's exactly what was happening to me. Thanks for the advice. Hopefully creating the exception stops the problem!
