@rchlhrpr This laptop is overkill for Sims 4, not that that's a bad thing on its own. You could run the game just as well with an RTX 3060 or 4050, and a 3050 would be fine for ultra settings too, although not at higher framerates. (As in, 60 or 75 fps would be doable, but not 120.) I would absolutely go with 16 GB RAM if you can afford it, although gaming laptops are easily upgraded, so don't spend an extra $200 to get 16 GB when you could buy and install it yourself for $30.
As for the processor, don't worry about it—strong CPUs are significantly cheaper than equivalent GPUs, so laptop manufacturers always pair a given GPU with a CPU that will outperform it. No one wants to spend a giant pile of money on a high-end graphics card only to have it bottlenecked by a processor that can't keep up.
As for whether a cheaper laptop would work for your purposes, that depends on the price of this one and what other needs you have. I can tell you about hardware but not what screen size you'd prefer or what keyboard layout is easiest to use. For storage, 512 GB is more than enough for Sims 4 and a couple other large games, but if your work has significant storage needs, and using an external drive is inconvenient, you might want to upgrade to a 1 TB SSD.
Feel free to link any other laptops you're considering, and to ask any other questions you might have.
