low quality textures despite high settings

I recently got a new laptop, and after setting up The Sims 4, found one issue that I can't seem to understand or solve.

The textures on pretty much all clothing and accessories (base game, purchased, and custom content alike) look compressed and pixelated (see images CAS top and live top), despite my graphics settings being on ultra. I know the laptop I played on before diplayed the same CAS objects with much better quality despite having used lower settings and weaker hardware, so it's not just me thinking the original textures are higher res than they actually are. It's been a while since I've played in live/build mode, so I don't remember if objects and such are this pixelated by default or if the issue is affecting those textures too (see image objects).

I have AMD Radeon integrated 780M graphics (with a Ryzen 7 7840U CPU), which was not a recognized video card. I've made sure my laptop, TS4, and drivers are fully up to date. I've tried repairing my game, turning off mods and cc, removing and remaking the options config, trying different settings in the AMD software, and googled for hours to find someone who's had this issue before - all with no success. I'll be glad to provide any additional info if necessary, and I'm so so so grateful for any tips or ideas for how to proceed ! 🙂

@maudgone  That all looks fine, but please make sure that Sims 4 itself is using your graphics driver correctly.  Go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, open Config.log, scroll down about 30 lines, and you'll see your GPU name.  It's fine if the game says it's not found or supported; the important thing is that you see AMD Radeon something and not Microsoft Basic Render Driver.

If that's not the problem, and it probably isn't, please disable post processing in the graphics options, then quit and restart.  If that doesn't help, please let me know what items these are so I can compare in my game.  (I'm not great at recognizing items myself.)  If you have examples from newer packs, that would help—I own all EPs and everything from 2019 on but not the older game or stuff packs.

@puzzlezaddict The config lists the graphics driver as AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics so all is well there, I tried disabling post processing and that didn't make any difference either. I've attached an example with the cropped polo top from high school years, which should work as an object of comparison.

I looked up some CAS overviews of the pack, which do admittedly have me questioning if I might have been too quick to say the low texture graphics are an abnormality - maybe it just looks worse now because the graphics surrounding it are much better, and thus the contrast in quality is much more noticeable? Either way I'm super grateful for the help ! :)

@maudgone  I think what you're seeing is normal and the rest of the game looks better.  But tell me what you think.  This is from my Mac, which I'm using in part because it's an ARM Mac and therefore has a completely unrelated GPU.

I can test on a machine with an AMD card (although an older model) and/or in Windows as well if you'd like more data, but I think this image above is the same as what you're seeing, or close enough.

@puzzlezaddict Yeah I think you're right, no need for more testing. Thank you so much for all of the help and effort though, even if it ended up being a non-issue !! 🙂
