Mouse disabling and screen darkens

My computer specs

RAM: 16GB

Processor: Intel Core i7-6820HK 2.71GHz

Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 980M (8GB)

OS: Windows 10 Pro

My problem

My computer mouse keeps disabling itself and my Built in Display goes all the way down to 0% when I'm either starting to play a save file or when I exit out of build mode.Sometimes it comes back and starts working normally but sometimes it doesn't. The touchpad still works when this happens and the game is still running able to be played, sans dark screen and mouse disabled. I'm 100% sure my computer is capable of handling this game. I haven't experienced any crashing or glitching or anything else like that, just the mouse automatically disabling itself and the screen brightness going down. And that only happens with this game.

Sims 4 games I have installed

Sims 4 Base Game

Sims 4 Cats and Dogs

Sims 4 Toddler Stuff

Sims 4 My First Pet

What I've tried

Only thing I've tried doing was unclicking 'Turn this off to save power' on the USB ports so it won't disable my mouse that way and that doesn't seem to have worked. I also changed the batteries in my mouse, that also didn't work.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. It's hard for me to play and enjoy this game without my mouse.

I do not have any mods or CC

To eliminate the possibility that there is some error in the game folder that causes this, rename The Sims4 folder in Documents to The Sims4 old.
Turn on the game and the new, virgin game folder will be created. Then check if you still have this error.
If this error does not disappear after that could you post your Computer's DxDiag?

Okay, I did what you instructed. And it seems like it's not darkening my screen or disabling my mouse. I don't know if I should continue to test it.

Now it is easy, you only need to restore your all saves and library.
Delete in the new game folder following folders:
    "saves" and Tray.
Step 1. Go to "The Sims 4 old" folder and copy - your "saves " folder.
Step. 2. Paste this folder in a newly created game folder.
Step 3. Do the same with Tray folder and TrayDeleteItems file
Step 4. Check if there are newly updated version mods you are using.
Then copy and paste your mods and CC from the old mods folder to the new one. First copy the scripts mods every time checking if the game is working properly. If you have a lot of CC try 50/50 method ( divide your CC into smaller batches for example 50 pieces in one subfolder and check these subfolders one by one)
Step 5. Launch the game and check if this problem also disappeared in this old save. However, it may happen that although the new saves will not have this error anymore, the old save will remain damaged.
The last step - delete The Sims4 old folder.

Okay, I did what you instructed and still no screen darkening or mouse disabling. I'll continue to test it and let you know if the problem does come back.

I probably should have mentioned this in my OP but 9 times out of 10, when this happens, my computer's battery is close to 30% or so so I don't know if that plays a factor as well.

To check it, just connect your computer to a permanent power source when it happens next time. But since resetting the game folder helped, the error was rather caused by some corrupted file in the game folder after an update.

Okay, I'll remember to keep it plugged in when I'm playing.

Thank you again for your help. I appreciate it. 🙂
