Moving mods to external hard drive

I installed my sims 4 on my hard drive but my mods folder(EA) folder is on my C drive. I moved it once but the game created another EA folder on my C drive. Is there anyway to store my folder(or even just my mods) on my external hard drive?

i play with cc n mods. I heard there’s a way to play with your mods folder in a cloud? How does tht work?

I just need space to play my favorite game the way I like too...please help?!!

    The game by default will always create the current game folder in Documents. To change this, you must move The Sims4 folder to an external drive. if you create a symbolic link, the game will see that, There are advantages and the negative side of it. How to do it and what to avoid after doing it, you'll find it here

    I don't work for EA

  • I am trying to move both the game AND my mods folder to an external drive.  I followed the steps to redirect the path of the game and then I followed the steps, as directed at Crinrict's blog.  Everything downloaded as expected, except three expansion packs - Moschino Stuff, First Pet and Toddler Stuff.  They won't "download" and I get the following error message for each pack:

    "Origin is not able to download The Sims™ 4 Moschino Stuff Pack to D:\Origin Games\The Sims 4\SP15\ResourceClient.cfg_DiP_STAGED.

    Please check that the location is available or cancel and restart the download to another location."

    Has anyone seen this before?  I have approximately 36.9 GB of space left on the external drive so it doesn't seem that space is the issue, but I can't figure out from the error message what the issue could possibly be.

    @wmintert

    How much free space do you have on your C: drive? There must be enough space for temporary files.

    Also note that symbolic links can easily break if Windows for any reason decides to change the drive letter of the external disk or it loses connection. Because of this a symbolic link should only be seen as a short term solution.

  • That did not work, for me. This one did, but none of my saves showed up and, eventually, my mods stopped showing up...

    @sarahsimmer  Again, please list the full file path to the folder the game itself is reading, as described in the second link I posted earlier.
