@Gemma-M-2018x I've moved your post to the Sims 4 PC tech section.
You can certainly install Sims 4 on your external hard drive if you'd like, although the game may load more slowly on this drive than if it were on your internal hard drive. But that's up to you. Please let me know whether you already have Sims 4 installed or not, either on this drive or on your internal hard drive.

@Gemma-M-2018x What you have is a NAS (network attached storage). While similar there is a big difference. A NAS is owned and maintained by the owner. It is located on your local network. If you have it directly attached to your computer then it acts as a local storage device (hard drive) via USB. Cloud storage is located at a remote data center and is maintained by the data center which has 24/7 power supply and should never be off line. I have several NAS boxes I have been using before cloud storage. Also there is a possibility of of your data being compromised (however remote) in the data center. You need to describe how that device is connected and how you want to use it with this game.

You can not use a NAS to install the Sims 4 on. It is not possible to install to a network drive. You can use an external drive that are directly connected to your computer through a USB cable or similar.
