I removed the entire sims folder and things are running smoothly. Originally my game would only go as far to the first plumbob loading screen and then force close to my desktop. My conclusion is either mods or playing more than 5 households was the issue. Could there be another issue?
@pb_andnoj Do you mean you play five households in one save, or five separate saves with one household each? Neither should prevent you from playing, and although having a number of played households in one save can make the save run a bit slower, depending on how long you've played it, that alone isn't enough to explain why the game keeps crashing. I'd still suspect either the mods or something else in your user data folder.
What you can try is copying one save from your old Sims 4 folder to your new one. Don't add any mods yet, just the save. Since you're copying and pasting rather than dragging and dropping, it won't matter that your other content is missing—you can freely experiment on the new copy while the original remains intact. Let me know whether the save still works in the clean folder. If it crashes, try loading a different household instead. Play that household for a few sim-hours, save, quit, reload, and see whether you can go back to the household you'd like to play.
