My saves keep getting corrupted in the sims 4

EmilyBAlfie

my saves keep getting corrupted and I’m not sure what to do at this point. about a week ago i encountered the worst glitch I’ve ever had in my game. my game wouldn’t save at all. i think for some players this comes up as error code 0 but i didn’t get any error code at all. when i try to save as it either creates a new save file with the same name or sometimes a file called ‘scratch’. neither of these actually save any progress. i decided to delete the corrupted save file and go back to a save from a week before (the last time i save as).

now, after a week, the glitch is back. i tried to save as and it just created a save file with the same name. it always happens around the same time my sims are having their wedding, so it could be to do with my wedding stories? but I’m not sure. what’s more concerning is after deleting the corrupted save files (only a couple hours worth of game play, not a big deal) and going back to one from the night before the glitch is STILL happening. it doesn’t happen immediately, usually about half an hour into game play. I'm really worried that somehow all of my saves have got corrupted.

can anyone please tell me why this is happening and how i can fix it?

  • @EmilyBAlfie  It's always best to do a first test with no mods at all, no Gallery downloads, and no saves if relevant, just a clean folder with nothing at all added to it.  Even if you're sure your mods are fine, adding them means adding an extra variable to account for, which makes troubleshooting more complicated.  So please start there, and if your new saves are fine, try one of your old saves in the new folder with no mods or cc present.  You can make a backup copy of the file so you don't overwrite it if you want.

  • @EmilyBAlfie  Please test a new save, for comparison's sake, and let me know whether the same issue appears.  Please also let me know what antivirus you use and whether OneDrive is running on this computer, whether you use it or not.

I’ll try that but i don’t think it will help☹️. i use mcafee and i have one drive. i tried disabling one drive a week ago when i first got the glitch but it didn’t fix it

I tried to disable one drive that way but it wouldn’t let me (check mark next to documents was greyed out so i couldn’t uncheck it). i ended up just unlinking my one drive from my pc so i’m not signed in anymore. i’m hoping that will be okay

i ended up taking one of my mods out (tmex settings and all of their other mods) and since then i’ve had a lot less mc last exceptions pop up so i’m really hoping it’s okay now. but today (before removing the mods) the glitch didn’t pop up until i was 4 hours into gameplay so i’m still worried.

i’ve also moved the sims 4 folder to my desktop so it would create a new folder and moved my saves (the ones that in theory shouldn’t be corrupt) and mods (only cc, mccc and ui cheats) into the new folder. just in case that does anything.

its such a weird and frustrating issue because i’ve done a ton of research and it seems like no one has had this exact problem so i don’t know what steps to take to fix it.
