my sim spellcaster can't learn potions
My sim was made as a spellcaster, but no matter how long she experiments at a cauldron she cannot learn any potions.

@crinrict I have other sims in another game that can learn potions- I'm not sure how to learn through sages, I get a "teach magic" interaction but nothing more specific. it also occurs to me that she does not have a cooking skill (even at 1) and I am wondering if that is preventing her from learning potions...
@agoak Don't think they are related. There should be an interaction for spells and one for potions but maybe that needs a perk to unlock. Not sure.
There are two possibilities for the sim to learn how to make potions. A Sim must have some degree of familiarity with Sage to have the "ask for potion recipe" option. The fastest way to make friends with sage is to learn magic from him. Sim can buy a recipe in the magic shop
However, before the sim completes the first level of magic, he can learn only a few recipesso far neither option has been available to this sim- when she goes to the book store there have been no potion recipes available, and apparently her relationship with the sage is not high enough yet. She is well above first level on her magic progression- at least an adept.
