Please try everything on this list:
The suggestions address several different underlying issues, so it's important to go through all of them. In particular, make sure you completely disable your antivirus when testing; it's often not sufficient to merely disable it.

@queenrose68 That depends on what the patch update does. The Legacy Edition doesn't get content patches, but the file structure does update, and so do some of the runtimes. So it's possible an update will fix whatever issue is preventing you from playing. On the other hand, there are a lot of reasons that the game won't open, some of which are specific to an issue on a particular computer, and it's unlikely an update would fix those.
Please run a dxdiag, upload it to a third-party filehosting site, and link it here. This site's virus scanner is currently blocking all attachments.

Please also look for any relevant entries in the Reliability Monitor. Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes. You'll see a list of errors and updates, with a column for each day. (Today is all the way on the right.)
For any errors that mention Origin or Sims 4 from the last 24 hours or so, or any that happened while you were trying to play, click "View technical details," then copy the information and paste it into a text document. (Notepad is fine.) Upload the file with your dxdiag, or if there's only one entry, you can copy and paste it into a post.
Sometimes the Reliability Monitor doesn't update right away, so if you don't see any related errors, be sure to check back an hour or two. The timestamp on the initial chart can also be off by up to an hour, so that's not an entirely reliable metric, but the one within the technical details should be accurate.

@queenrose68 I can't see either file; the links you chose may be restricted to just you or the people you add to the sharing list. Normally you need to specify that anyone with the link can view the file, which you can do when you click the Sharing button. However, this site's virus scanner appears to be working again, so if you'd rather attach the files to a post, go ahead.
