My sim's cannot write books. I don't have mods. Please help.

I've also not been able to write books. My sims also can't resume books or scrap them. It is very annoying since most of my sims have something to so with writing. This plus the Toddler needs decaying at double speed make me glad I haven't spent money on expansions recently since it's unbearably annoying to play right now with all the bugs!
