NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2050 ok for sims 4

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all well. I would like an advice on a laptop I want to buy. It has i7 , 16 ram with 512 sad storage and graphics card is a NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2050 Laptop GPU (4 GB GDDR6 dedicated). Would it run the game well? I also need for school as well. I have almost all the expansions packs and I use mods and cc as well.

  • @bernice459  I think the laptop you've picked out is a very good choice for the price.  I did look at a handful of other stores, and I only saw one additional laptop worth mentioning—the other lightweight models with a 3050 or faster are all at least £200 more expensive without providing any additional benefit.  This one is £1,060 though:

Its processor is better overall, but not in a way that would make a difference to Sims 4.  The screen has a higher pixel density, meaning images will look more crisp, but it's not a touchscreen.  (If you were planning to play Sims 4 with the touchscreen, please know that the game doesn't work well at all with touch input; you'd probably end up needing to use the track pad or a mouse.)  It's also slightly lighter than the HP.

If you still prefer the HP, then it should do just fine, and the touchscreen would be convenient for other purposes if not gaming.  If you want something a little faster, consider the Dell.

  • @bernice459  An RTX 2050 should be able to run all current Sims 4 packs together on ultra graphics settings.  The other specs are more than sufficient for ultra settings as well.  So this laptop should work fine.

However, if you can find a laptop with a 3050, that would be better and perhaps not much more expensive.  I'm not saying the 2050 is a bad choice, because it isn't, only that you may be able to find a slightly better option.  But if not, don't worry about it.

Thank you for you reply. Do you have any suggestion for laptop with 3050 graphic card?

@bernice459  That depends on where you're located.  If you'd like suggestions, please let me know your budget and country as well as any other details that matter to you, for example the weight or screen size of the laptop.  Please also link the laptop you're considering so I can compare it with other options.

It might be that you've already found the best laptop in terms of price and other details, but I'm happy to look around anyway.

Hi, I’ve recently been looking around for a new gaming laptop to play the Sims 4 and have come across your responses and was wondering if you’d be able to help.

I’m based in the UK and have a budget of £600-£700. I only ever play the Sims 4 and its expansions, with no mods or CC content at all.

Do you have any recommendations? I’ve looked at getting the MSI cyborg 15 with RTX 3050 not 2050 but have heard bad things about the quality of the laptops structure so didn’t want to risk it without some further guidance. Thank you!

@chloejmc  The MSI Cyborg isn't a terrible laptop, in that it won't fall apart on you the day the warranty runs out.  But yes, you can do better in terms of one or more markers of quality: noise, heat, screen, feel under your fingers, etc.  For example, this one runs cooler and quieter and has a better screen:

This one is a good alternative, even under £600 with an e-voucher.  It does only have 8 GB RAM, but you could upgrade it yourself (memory is cheap and easy to install) and still stay well within budget.  It's also not strictly necessary just for Sims 4, at least not with a gaming laptop, because the graphics card has its own VRAM that it will use rather than borrowing from main memory.

You could also get basically the same Asus as above except with 8 GB RAM and an RTX 4050.  The extra power is also not necessary for Sims 4, but you can't upgrade the GPU after the fact.  To be clear, an RTX 3050 should always be able to handle Sims 4 on ultra graphics settings, unless the game changes significantly in a way that hasn't been indicated so far.  This is more about the possibility of other games, or high poly custom content, or ReShade, or whatever else you might want to add in the future.

I'm not seeing anything else as good for under £700 right now, which is unsurprising given that most of the holiday sales are over.

Personally, I think the Asus is better than the HP, considering all the details of the two laptops.  But it's not so much better that it would be worth stretching your budget, and it's questionable whether it's worth the extra £80-90 it would cost after you added in the price of more RAM for the HP (if you decided to go that route).  On the other hand, if you're not going to upgrade on your own, it would be great to have the extra memory for the future.

If you have more questions, please feel free to ask.

Thank you so much for getting back to me and for the advice. I think I’ll go for the HP just for budget reasons more than anything, and am happy to increase the RAM myself at some point if needs be. Thank you and have a Happy New Year!
