Offloading the sims?

Im not sure if this is the right area, but I need to know something. If I uninstall the sims from my laptop, will I lose my progress? I was trying to download Godot so I can begin working on a game idea, but turns out the sims (base game only FYI!) is causing so many issues with storage! while Ill have to reinstall at some point, in fear I was graciously gifted a sims pack I added to my wishlist for Christmas, besides Roblox its my only program on my laptop besides dads old apps he has as this is a work laptop he currently doesn't need. So, I need to know if I will lose my data all because I want to use my computer for more than just video games. Please help, Id very much appreciate it! If I don't respond soon to any help, I apologize but Midterms have my attention right now, unfortunately.

  • Id also like to note; I only use the EA app for the sims. I was originally thinking about Rocket League, but it was only really to impress my crush. So should I just remove the EA app as a whole for the time being?

  • @dreamystarbi  When you uninstall Sims 4 itself, through the EA App, you remove the game but (usually, under normal circumstances) not your saves or other user data.  Those are stored in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, and it's best to make a backup of this folder or its critical contents, e.g. the saves folder, just to be on the safe side.  As for your DLC, your account owns it, not your computer, and it will be available to reinstall whenever you want.

This is not only about uninstalling the game but also in case you run into computer trouble.  You can upload the data to a free cloud storage service like Google Drive, or store it on an external drive or USB stick.  In either case, I'd suggest zipping the folder(s) first both to save space and to lessen the chance of corrupting any files.

The Sims 4 base game takes up about 20 GB storage, with packs ranging from negligible in size to maybe 3 GB for a couple of expansions.  If you're seeing more of an impact than that, it's possible you have a second game install somewhere.  Let me know if you need help finding it.

The EA App is relatively small, so removing it doesn't make much of a difference.  But it's also not harmful to do so as long as you remember to reinstall it when needed.

@puzzlezaddict A second game install? That's possible? I mean, Ive checked over all of my files and I don't see any second game located in it. I'd guess it could be that it's in my taskbar, but I am not that knowledgeable on computers. I would definitely like some help trying to locate a said second game, but as a warning I do have school tomorrow and wouldn't be able to reply and look for until late evening tomorrow. I'll also ask my dad about how to get stuff onto the hard drive he got me so I can put extra save files in.

@dreamystarbi  I would suggest installing Everything, from VoidTools, which is a free and highly-efficient search tool, much better than the built-in Windows search.  This will speed up the process of looking for a second install, and also give you more confidence that one doesn't exist if you don't find anything.

Launch Everything and search for TS4_x64.  You should see exactly one result, or two if you have a desktop shortcut to it.  If you see multiple results directly inside a Bin folder, please post the full location of each Bin folder, which you can see by expanding the window sideways.

If you only see the one result, look for Delta, which is not exclusive to Sims 4 but may exist when TS4_x64 does not.  If you see multiple Delta results that are directly inside a "The Sims 4" folder, post their locations too.  Finally, please search for __Installer and post multiple results that are somewhere inside a Sims 4 folder, if they exist.
