Origin cant find save files

Do you mean a solid state drive (SSD) or secure digital (SD) card? I'm guessing the latter, since SSDs need to be installed and not simply inserted into a slot.
Anyway, Sims 4 will read the user data, saves included, in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4, not anywhere else. When you change the default install location in Origin, what you're doing is changing the location where the game files themselves are installed, not where your user data is stored. So put your saves in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves, and they should show up.
