Own the game on Steam, but Origin is asking for a product key.

So, I have an Origin account from a while back, which happens to be this account that I'm using. I recently bought Sims 4 on Steam however, and things worked fine for a while, but two days ago I tried to play and instead of logging me in automatically, it made me log into Origin and it asked for a product key to play the game. Obviously I don't have a code because I bought it on Steam.

I contacted EA support, and with their help I discovered that Steam seemed to have created an alternate account that my game is connected to. However when I tried to log in via Steam username, it tells me my credentials have expired and I need to change my password. I have the option to send an email for that, but no clue where that email goes because it doesn't go to my main email. The one that this account is linked to. EA support told me that all I could do was contact Steam support and find out what account my steam is linked to.

I did that. Steam support says they have no way of telling what account its linked to and that I have to contact EA support.

Now I'm stuck in a loop of no one helping me and I am not able to access my game. I doubt I am able to refund my $100+ I spent on expansions either now that its been months since I bought the game.

Has anyone else had this experience and do they have any advice on how to get into my account so I can play my game?

    Hi @Crackerfang,

Sorry to hear this! To ensure we're speaking to the authorized account holder for any issues related to your account you'll need to speak with an advisor at http://bit.ly/EA_Contact_Us for assistance.

We can't assist with this type of issue via AHQ I'm afraid.
  • If I do that, I'm assuming they're just going to tell me that they can't do anything and I need to contact Steam again.

I guess I should just consider this a loss and give up. Thanks though.
