Parenthood - child's mess can't be selected (i.e. can't be cleaned up)

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Have child make a mess
What happens when the bug occurs? The mess is not selectable like others. As such, it cannot be cleaned. However, it is still in the way so that other objects cannot be placed on that spot in build mode.
What do you expect to see? I expect the mess to be selectable so a sim can clean it, not just walk to the spot.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No
This has only ever happened to one mess, but it's been many game days and the game has been closed and reopened, the cache cleared, yet the problem persists. I can't find an answer to this problem anywhere. It's not that the sim won't clean, it's the the option to clean this particular mess doesn't exist. All other messes and dirty dishes, puddles, etc. can be cleaned just fine. This particular mess, though, also interferes with other objects. Meaning nothing can be placed where the mess is in build mode, which has become a problem. I tried using testingcheats on as well, but it's still not selectable. I'm not sure what else to do. Please help.

Is it outside or inside the house ?
If it's inside, have you tried deleting the area in build mode ?
If you're not opposed trying a mod, you can also try if the deleteobjects mods by twistedmexi helps getting rid of it.
