Portable Laptop for Sims 4 ?

Essentially I've finally gotten a decent enough job I can afford to upgrade my laptop - the issue is, most of my free time is now spending travelling to and from work via public transport...

Has anyone got any recommendations for laptops that are portable, with decent battery life (able to cope with playing sims for about two hours a day without dying) and would be able to handle playing sims on the highest (or close to the highest) graphics? I'm not fussed about the price as happy to save up, but I can't seem to find a happy medium between complete overkill for running a basic sims game and not being able to meet one of those three requirements.

  • @Liv_October  How portable do you want the laptop to be?  Gaming laptops are mostly over 2 kg/4.5 lbs, although there are exceptions, and they almost all have 15" or 17" screens.  Additionally, while some have decent battery life, you won't be able to play Sims 4 for 2 hours or anything close, that is unless you mess with the system's power settings, play on low graphics settings, and probably also make some other adjustments behind the scenes.  Games are demanding, hardware draws a lot of power while running them, and laptop batteries can't really keep up.

If you let me know what you have in mind, as well as your budget and country, I'll look for some good options.  But like I said, playing Sims 4 on ultra for 2 hours on battery is just not feasible, on pretty much any system.

@puzzlezaddict Essentially my daily commute involves a decent amount of walking, going up stairs and several changeovers - I want a laptop that I can carry over that distance and not break my back. ...Or for that matter, the laptop. I've tried similar journeys with my existing bulky laptop (2.3kg and 15.6 inch screen) in the past and it was a nightmare, so anything more slimline than that would be ideal

And don't worry, I wasn't expecting to be able to play Ultra while not charging - essentially I want something that can handle Sims on... the basic low settings for a hour or two if not charging, but can also do Ultra/high settings if it's on charge. Some of the transport I get on offers charging, but some don't, so I need something that can handle both situations if possible.

I'm in the UK, and my budget would probably be around £700 - £1200. It's honestly just hard to narrow down the options when there's so many out there and I can't tell if I need to go for top specs, or something more midrange.

    EDIT:

But again, cannot tell if it's overkill.

Edit:  I didn't see your edit before I started writing, but that's the same laptop as the one in my second link, just £50 more expensive.  Currys might match the price though.

@Liv_October  Given what you want, it's actually not that hard at all to narrow things down, at least if you really need a smaller laptop.  Among gaming laptops in your price range, the only one that's smaller than 15" is the Asus ROG Zephyrus, and it's also about 1.6 kg, as opposed to virtually all other gaming laptops (1.9 kg and above).  There is a 15" Zephyrus model, but it's pretty much a regular gaming laptop with a pretty design.

I checked a few sites for the Zephyrus, and these are the best prices (£980 and £1.050) I saw for the models with an Nvidia 1650 and 1650 ti, respectively; the ti variant is a few percentage points faster in gaming than the regular card.  The 1650 can handle Sim 4 on ultra graphics settings now with some room to spare, although that may not be true by the time the game is out of development, but a mix of high and ultra should always be fine.  Models with a 1660 ti are more like £1,300 and up.

Both laptops are in stock on a few different sites, so if you have a preference for buying from a certain store or stores, let me know.

This laptop is also well-reviewed, with good temperatures and game performance, plus a battery life that got a lot longer after Asus pushed an update to fix... something, I'm not sure what.  If this isn't what you had in mind though, I can look for other options.  However, you'd probably either need to go with a 15" laptop or compromise to some extent on performance, for example getting a graphics card that could handle high settings but not ultra.
